Acrylic and Metal Work

We are able to produce some fantastic structures in forms other than wood. We have an outstanding production team that help us with all acrylic and metal work. We can produce intricate, delicate units in acrylic or even more industrial heavy duty structures in steel. Whatever fits the client brief and the client wants we can source and produce this.

Our latest project involving large scale metal work was for Selfridges & Co, Oxford Street London.

The brief from the client was to detail design, manufacture and carry out a full installation in a 250sq m exhibition space on the lower ground floor, which was to be used for lectures and activities. The concept was generated by award winning architect Rem Koolhaas' OMA and featured a 7 metre diameter 72 seat illuminated amphitheatre as the centrepiece.

The amphitheatre had to be portable and constructed in two sections to allow the client to form different configurations, which would either provide a more intimate atmosphere when positioned as a circle, or separated to surround a stage.

This was produced by cnc rolling steel sections to different radii to form the overall structure, then fabricating horizontal rails to give a spiders web effect and to ensure rigidity. The brief was also to make the whole structure easily mobile to suit each seminar. This was achieved using heavy duty castors that also offered a levelling facility to aid stability.

The seating areas and externals were clad with opal and clear polycarbonate panels which mimicked the curves. The whole structure was illuminated with over 100 fluorescent fittings that all contributed to ensure the amphitheatre was the centrepiece of the installation.
